As we get closer to the political season, I want to remind everyone about paperwork timing, as well as a few other rules. For all candidate and issue advertisements, WKXW and WPST legally has to get all the required paperwork into their respective public file within 24 hours of a broadcast contract being put into the system. This is a very strict deadline dictated by the FCC. Stations can be fined for not following this rule. We got caught a few times last year when an order was put into the system, but the rest of the political paperwork, like the NAB form, didn’t get submitted until days later. We have to be very careful not to let that happen this year. If you know a client is giving you a hard time about the required paperwork, please talk with Mike Guarasi first about when to put in the order. The clock starts once the order is in the system. Also, please keep in mind that I don’t have access to any of the systems used in sales. The only way I know about a candidate or issue order is from the account executive. Please make sure to keep me in the loop. As a review, the following is needed for ALL candidate and issue advertising: --a Broadcast Contract from WKXW or WSPT --NAB Form PB-19 (attached) --any insertion order from client --copy of the ad (ad must be approved first before airing) --proof of payment --political inquiry form (attached) As for the ads, all issue advertisements need to include the proper “paid for by” language at the end or beginning of the ad. All federal candidate ads, which is what we’re likely to get this political season, must include the voice of the candidate introducing himself/herself and the approval statement. Federal candidates are usually pretty good about this. Mike Guarasi should be included on all emails regarding political and issues ads. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
